The Greenwood County Adult Education program, located at Genesis Education Center, had one of its own recognized recently on both the regional and state level at the South Carolina Adult Education spring training and awards luncheon in Columbia. Renee V. Robinson who serves as the Transition Specialist for the Greenwood program was awarded Transition Specialist of the Year for Region 1 and Transition Specialist of the Year for the state of South Carolina.
Region 1 of the Adult Education state program includes Abbeville, Anderson, Edgefield, Greenville, Greenwood, Laurens, McCormick, Newberry, Oconee, Pickens and Saluda counties. Robinson is also the Region 1 Transition Specialist (TS) representative, providing leadership and support to the other TS staff in the region. As Greenwood’s TS, Robinson is responsible for providing intake, orientation, career guidance and testing services for students pursuing their GED and high school diploma credentials. She also serves as a community liaison with local agencies who partner with adult education to provide services.
“This is quite an honor”, says Robinson. “This is more than a job…it’s a ministry for me. I love helping the students that I serve and I enjoy working with our teachers and staff”. Doris Watson, Program Director, agrees. She states, “our daily work is a ministry of love and we could not do it without Mrs. Robinson’s hard work and dedication. She is very deserving of these regional and state awards.
