Spearman Announces New South Carolina Teacher of the Year

Columbia, SC – State Superintendent of Education Molly Spearman announced that the new South Carolina teacher of the Year is Jennifer Wise, a 7th and 8th grade Mathematics teacher at Hand Middle School in Richland School District One. 

 

“I am proud of all our finalists and district teachers of the year and just thrilled for Jennifer and Richland One,” said Spearman. “What an inspirational evening to celebrate our state’s teachers!” said Spearman.

 

Wise recognized her desire to become a Math educator during her junior year in high school while tutoring her peers after-school.  Jennifer has served in a number of leadership roles including serving on the Mathematics Standard Review Board, School Wellness Council, and Professional Learning Community Facilitator.

  

She receives $25,000 and gets to drive a brand new BMW for one year while advocating for teachers across South Carolina.
