South Carolina Department of Education Announces 21st Century Community Learning Centers Grant Recipients

The South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) announced 32 sites have been selected as Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant recipients.

This program provides opportunities for communities to establish or expand activities in community learning centers that:

  • Support academic enrichment, including providing tutorial services to help students, particularly students who attend low-performing schools;
  • Offer students a broad array of additional services, programs, and activities, such as youth development activities, service learning, nutrition and health education, etc.; and
  • Offer families served opportunities for active and meaningful engagement in their child’s education.

In order to be considered for this grant, applicants must be “a school district, community-based organization, Indian tribe or tribal organization, faith-based organization or public or private entity.” The deadline for this year’s applications was March 7.
