The South Carolina Department of Education and State Superintendent Molly Spearman are proud to announce Trixi DeRosa-Davis as the 2016 VirtualSC Teacher of the Year.

“Our VirtualSC program offers public, private, and home school students high quality online courses so that no matter their location they can be prepared with the tools necessary to graduate and be successful, “ said State Superintendent of Education Molly Spearman.

“Ms. DeRosa-Davis is a dedicated instructor who works tirelessly to ensure that her world language students are successful. We are so proud of her and look forward to her continued service to students and leadership in online instruction,” concluded Spearman.

Trixi DeRosa-Davis is a Spanish Instructor and World Languages Lead Teacher for VirtualSC.  Trixi has been teaching for 13 years total, with the last 5 years full-time with VirtualSC.  Prior to moving to the virtual classroom, she spent 8 years in the traditional classroom teaching Spanish at all grade levels. Trixi is also a part-time instructor at USC Upstate in the School of Education, where she has taught World Language Teaching Methods and Resources and Technology in Teaching since 2012.

As an educator, Trixi has mentored a number of beginning teachers in both the traditional and virtual classrooms. She enjoys presenting at conferences and workshops and is tireless in her commitment to excellence in online instruction. Please view this video highlighting Trixi DeRosa Davis.

VirtualSC is a free state-sponsored online program of the South Carolina Department of Education. VirtualSC serves students currently attending public, private and home schools in grades 7-12 and Adult Education Programs. Last year, the program served 60,833 individual students across South Carolina. Course offerings include all core content areas, career and technology education, world language, computer science, and fine arts. Courses are offered at the college prep, honors and AP level taught by SC certified, highly qualified teachers.
