Lexington District One Teacher Named Para Educator of the Year

Lexington High School Instructional Assistant Carla Roland was named the 2015-16 Para Educator of the Year by the South Carolina Council for Exceptional Children.

Roland, who teaches in Lexington School District One, was recognized for her efforts to implement curricular modifications and other accommodations that result in a positive learning environment for students with special needs.

A Lexington High School English teacher said this about Roland in a nomination letter:

“Carla has a phenomenal ability to both care deeply for her students and give them the support they need while still holding them accountable and maintaining high expectations for them.  She has an uncanny knack of knowing exactly what a student needs to hear in any given situation to get them motivated and keep them on track, and she never hesitates to jump right into whatever activity is going on in the classroom at any given time.”

Roland is in her fourth year with Lexington District One and her third year as an instructional assistant in a Special Needs classroom at Lexington High.
