We are so excited for Maria Valentina Vasquez for winning the Herman W. Lay scholarship to Furman University! This is a 4-year full scholarship.

Maria Valentina, a native of beautiful Costa Rica, has called Greenville, South Carolina home for the last eight years.  She has been at Legacy since the 7th grade. Thanks to an impressive personal level of focus and hard work, her family's love, generous assistance from higher ed partners and the selfless dedicated work of teachers, counselors and mentors at The Legacy Charter School, she qualified and was awarded this awesome gift and opportunity. 

The last four years in the Early College HS for her (and those who know her) have been years of much learning and growth, failures and tears, hard lessons and sweet reflections and multiple teachable moments received and given with and by many. This award is not coincidence or good luck.  This is the result of planning, effecting and relentlessly pushing through with a goal and plan made long ago and of people working together to find solutions to challenges and opportunities for the students we serve.  This is where hard work meets generous opportunity.
