The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded South Carolina more than $58 million to purchase electric school buses, as part of its Clean School Bus Program. The funds to the South Carolina Department of Education are the third largest award nationally. It will be used to purchase 148 electric buses for 16 school districts and support infrastructure for the new buses.
The National Assessment Governing Board and the National Center for Education Statistics released the results of the 2022 administration of the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), commonly known as the "Nation's Report Card" and the largest nationally representative and continuing assessment of what America's students know and can do in various subject areas. Historically, NAEP is administered every two years, but COVID-19 caused the assessment planned for 2021 to be delayed until 2022. While many states saw statistically significant declines in grades four and eight from 2019, South Carolina scores remained steady in grade four reading and math while measurably declining in grade eight.

State Superintendent of Education Molly Spearman announced the allocation of $3 million in state funding to Marlboro County School District to assist in the renovation and replacement of antiquated existing school facilities with safe, modern facilities to accommodate current and future county enrollment trends. The funding is part of the $140 million under Proviso 1.92 of the General Appropriations Bill for Fiscal Year 2022-2023.
