Columbia, S.C. - Three South Carolina school districts are among a total of 373 in the United States and Canada being honored by the College Board with placement on the Annual AP Honor Roll.

AP Honor Roll districts simultaneously increased access to Advanced Placement® coursework while maintaining or increasing the percentage of students earning scores of 3 or higher on AP Exams.

The school districts in South Carolina that met the criteria to be placed on the AP Honor Roll are:

• Fort Mill School District-York 4
• Lexington School District Two
• South Carolina Public Charter School District

In 2018, South Carolina saw growth in all three major areas of AP participation and performance. The number of students taking exams increased 5.7% to 32,641. The number of exams increased 6.6% to 52,115 exams. South Carolina students scoring three or higher on AP exams increased 10.1% to 30,427 exams. AP exam scores of three indicate a candidate who is qualified to take college-level courses. Colleges and universities often grant class credit and use AP scores of three or more to place students in higher course levels.

South Carolina students outperformed the national average in percentage of exams with scores of three or more on eight of the top ten most popular Advanced Placement tested subjects. 

In 2018, more than 4,000 colleges and universities around the world received AP scores for college credit, advanced placement, or both, and/or consideration in the admissions process. Inclusion in the 9th Annual AP District Honor Roll is based on a review of three years of AP data, from 2016 to 2018, looking across 38 AP Exams, including world language and culture. The following criteria were used. Districts must:  Increase participation/access to AP by at least 4% in large districts, at least 6% in medium districts, and at least 11% in small districts;  Increased or maintained the percentage of American Indian/Alaska Native, Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, and Native Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islander students taking exams and increased or maintained the percentage of American Indian/Alaska Native, Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, and Native Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islander students scoring 3+ on at least one AP Exam; and Improve or maintain performance levels when comparing the 2018 percentage of students scoring a 3 or higher to the 2016 percentage, unless the district has already attained a performance level at which more than 70% of its AP students earn a 3 or higher.  The complete 9th Annual AP District Honor Roll can be found here.  ###
