Superintendent Spearman and Marcus Lattimore Partner to Promote
Career Development for Student-Athletes

Columbia, S.C. – The South Carolina Department of Education partnered with the Marcus Lattimore Foundation to host a career development program for more than 250 South Carolina high school athletes.

"I am proud to join Marcus Lattimore in his efforts to guide student-athletes in both their academic and athletic careers during high school and beyond," said Spearman. "It is very exciting anytime we're discussing the prospects of a South Carolina athlete becoming a professional in their chosen sport. However, all student-athletes should develop a career plan to sustain them after their athletic career is finished. Marcus's commitment to helping these student-athletes make the right choices is second to none, and we are truly grateful for his inspirational leadership," said Spearman.

More than 250 high school student-athletes from 16 schools across the Midlands attended the "My Career After the Game" seminar, hosted by the Marcus Lattimore Foundation/D.R.E.A.M.S. and the South Carolina State Department of Education. The program prepares students for college academics, college athletics, and how to choose a degree that will lead to a desired career path. Each student-athlete invited to the program was selected based on academics, discipline, and athletic leadership.

"Marcus Lattimore continues to do great things for the people of South Carolina, and I am so happy to be a part of a great program that helps students and families transition from high school to college and then successful careers," concluded Spearman.

The program featured presentations on relevant topics including NCAA eligibility, professional etiquette, job interview techniques, and personal finance. Keynote speakers included Chris Wolfe, former player on the LPGA TOUR and Sheldon Brown, former NFL player for the Philadelphia Eagles and Cleveland Browns.
