State Superintendent Molly Spearman and the South Carolina Department of Education released the 2015-2016 school year assessment results of The South Carolina Palmetto Assessment of State Standards (SCPASS) and The South Carolina College-and Career-Ready Assessments (SC READY), examinations given in the elementary and middle school grade levels. The results of the End of Course Examination (EOCEP) are also being released.
“In order to achieve success we must have high expectations for ALL students regardless of demographics or location. Every student has the ability to learn and be successful if they have the proper supports in place. We will be using the results of these assessments to better prepare educators and in turn, students for the goal of being college and career ready upon graduation,” said State Superintendent of Education Molly Spearman.
SCPASS and EOCEP are long standing state assessments while SC READY is a test that was administered for the first time in the 2015-2016 school year. As such, the SC READY assessment results cannot be compared to previous assessments. The SC READY assessment is aligned to the South Carolina College and Career Ready Standards in English Language Arts and Mathematics that were adopted in 2015.
SCPASS
The South Carolina Palmetto Assessment of State Standards (SCPASS) is a statewide assessment administered to students in grades four through eight. SCPASS includes tests in two subjects: science and social studies that are aligned to South Carolina’s rigorous science and social studies standards.

SCREADY
The South Carolina College-and Career-Ready Assessments (SC READY) are statewide assessments in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics that are aligned to the South Carolina College and Career Ready Standards for ELA and Math. All students in grades 3–8 are required to take the SC READY except those who qualify for the South Carolina National Center and State Collaborative (SC-NCSC). The SC READY assessment was given for the first time in the 2015-2016 school year and comparisons CAN NOT be drawn between the new assessment and its predecessor, ACT Aspire.
