Florence District 3 Student Wins Gates Millennium Scholarship

 

“It gives us great pleasure to announce that Florence County School District Three has back-to-back Gates Millennium Scholars,” said Laura Hickson, Florence District Three Superintendent. “In 2015, Mikayla Hanna, now attending the University of Maryland­ Baltimore County, was our first Gates Millennium Scholar. On April 19, 2016, Lake City High School Senior, Rebeca Pacheco, received notification that she has been selected as a 2016 Gates Millennium Scholar.

 

“This is the second year of the Florence County School District 3 College Planning Cohort initiative in which yearlong guidance and support is provided to rising high school seniors to not only ensure that students are developing a broad range of college readiness and workplace skills, but expose students to top colleges and scholarships, like the Gates Millennium Scholars program. The initiative is designed to intentionally provide hands-on support to students who come from lower-income families and who are the first in their family to attend college.

 

“We are so proud of Rebeca and the options and opportunities that all of the Lake City High School graduating seniors will have in pursuing their college and career aspirations.”
