Grants are limited under the terms of the foundation's charter to projects that primarily benefit programs for human nutrition in the areas of health, education, training, and research.  The decisions of the board of trustees will be announced in June of each year. Grant applications may be submitted any time.

Play 

Nickelodeon's Let's Just Play Giveaway 
This year Nickelodeon has dedicated over a million dollars in funding. Kids can enter their school of community-based programs to win a $5,000 grant. Get your parent's permission to print and complete an official entry form available on online at www.nick.com, www.nickjr.com and www.everythingnick.com; or just hand print your complete name, address, city, state, zip code, daytime phone number, age, top 3 reasons why your school or club needs more play, school or organization name, address of school or organization, school or organization contact name and signature on at least a 3 1/2" x 5" postcard and mail either form of entry in an envelope with sufficient postage affixed to: Nickelodeon's “Let's Just Play� Giveaway, PO Box 10850, Rochester, NY 14610.

Playgrounds

KaBOOM!
KaBOOM!, a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit organization is offering 20, $5,000 challenge grants towards the planning and construction of playgrounds. Is your organization in need of a new playground?  Can you mobilize your local community to support a volunteer-led project?  If so, this may be the perfect opportunity for you! Thanks to the generosity of our many Funding Partners there are ongoing opportunities to build new, safe playgrounds across our nation.  We are currently doing outreach to locate potential Community Partners in cities all across North America for playgrounds to be built in 2004.  Ideal Community Partners are usually child-serving, non-profit organizations but could be community development organizations, neighborhood coalitions, charter schools, or any organization that can mobilize a volunteer force and is in need of a playground. This funder has a rolling deadline.

Poverty

Good Samaritan Grant
The Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina recently announced the creation of a new and improved Good Samaritan Grant program.  These grants are designed to address the root causes of poverty.  The new process will allow the Foundation to work more closely with potential grantees before and after a grant award. Potential applicants should review the mission and focus of the Foundation.  If there seems to be an appropriate match, the applicant should prepare a Good Samaritan Grant concept letter and submit it by 5:00 p.m. on the first Tuesday in April.

Professional Development for Teachers 

Earthwatch Institute 
Earthwatch expeditions are unique professional development experiences. Educator volunteers have returned from our projects inspired and rejuvenated. Explore some of the materials they have produced, find out how you can join a project and how to involve your school and community in our mission. Deadline: Applications accepted on a rolling basis. 

NEA Professional Development Grants 
The foundation’s grants provide opportunities for teachers, education support professionals, and higher education faculty and staff to engage in high-quality professional development and lead their colleagues in professional growth. Grants also fund project-based learning and break-the-mold innovations that significantly improve achievement for underserved students. The NEA Foundation encourages grant applications from teachers and staff with less than seven years of experience in the profession and education support professionals. Applicants are encouraged to plan ahead. Applications are reviewed three times per year, every year: September 15, February 1, and June 1.
