Family Violence Prevention

Target Stores Family Violence Prevention Grants
Target Stores fund local programs that strengthen families and communities and keep them safe. These grants support programs such as family counseling, parenting classes that help prevent family violence, support groups and abuse shelters. Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations, schools, libraries or public agencies. Applications are accepted between March 1 and May 31, 2008 for programs taking place between October 1, 2008 and September 30, 2009.

Humanities

SC Humanities Council Mini Grants
Mini-grants: awards of $1,200 or less are reviewed monthly by the The Humanities Council's executive committee. The funder requests that applicants submit their application drafts for review one week prior to the deadline. Please note that the competition has been suspended for October and it is expected to resume in November. Submission deadline is the first of each month, with notification of review action by the end of the month. 


Inventing 

Lemelson-MIT InvenTeams High School 
InvenTeams aims to excite high school students about science, math, engineering, entrepreneurship and intention; empower students through problem solving; and encourage a sustainable culture of invention in schools and communities. Applying for an InvenTeams grant is a two-tiered process: the initial application is available online each October (for grants awarded the following academic year) and is due the following May. Selected finalists are notified in the summer and asked to complete a final application due in the following September. For example, the initial application for the 2007 InvenTeams (2006-2007 academic year) will become available in Fall 2006. Small project development grants (up to $500) are available to help develop final proposals.


Journalism


Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation 
The Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation was established in 1982 by Edith Kinney Gaylord to support charitable and educational projects. An Advisory Committee meets periodically to review requests and recommend grants, after which the Directors act on the recommendations and if approved, distributions are made. In order to apply for a Foundation grant, a Letter of Inquiry must be submitted prior to one of the deadlines noted below. If the Letter of Inquiry is accepted by the Foundation, you will be asked to move forward with the application process by submitting the Application Form prior to one of the deadlines noted below. Do not move forward with the application process until authorized by the Foundation. Deadlines: Letter of Inquiry: April 15th or October 15th; application (requires Foundation approval): May 15th or November 15th.


Libraries

Ezra Jack Keats Mini-grants for Libraries
The Foundation offers Minigrants of $350 to School and Public Libraries for programs that encourage literacy and creativity in children. Deadline is Sept. 15 each year.


Lisa Libraries 
The Lisa Libraries donates new children's books and small libraries to organizations that work with kids in poor and under-served areas. Please write to The Lisa Libraries and include the following: information (letter, brochures, news items) about your program; the number of children served; age range of children served; and a breakdown of how the books would be used. If available, please also include: most recent ruling on your tax exempt 501(c)(3) status; current annual budget; and a list of current funding sources. This funder has no deadline for application.

Literacy


Dollar General Community Grants
Dollar General believes there is no greater gift than giving individuals the ability to empower themselves.  Our Community grants Program focus on youth literacy initiatives for the simple, but important reason that literacy is the foundation upon which all education and professional success are built. 2005 Guidelines Submission deadlines are March 5, June 5, September 5, and December 5. 


Starbucks Foundation Grants
The Foundation funds local programs that serve low-income, at-risk youth through its Grant Program. Grants range from $5,000 to $20,000 for Power of Literacy Programs that stimulate personal development and a commitment to social equity, justice and environmental awareness through writing, literacy and expression in public forums. Grant applications are reviewed twice yearly, April 1st and October 1st.
