Major revisions to the ADEPT for Special Areas evaluation models were approved by the State Board of Education in June 2021. These revisions were the first since 2006. Special Areas advisory groups, including educator preparation program faculty, district leaders, school leaders, and special areas educators, were convened in summer and fall 2019 to review feedback from the field, to analyze changes to national standards, and to propose changes to evaluation models, including new evaluation rubrics. 2021–2022 was the first year of statewide implementation of ADEPT for Special Areas. Educators interested in becoming certified as a School Counselor, School Librarian, or Speech-Language Professional should review the Office of Educator Services resources for adding-on service fields or requirements for initial certification.
