Each year since 1989, the South Carolina Department of Education and community and corporate partners have identified and highlighted African Americans from South Carolina who have had a lasting impact on our state and nation by featuring them in the South Carolina African American History Calendar. The stories and contributions of the twelve honorees featured in the calendar are used by South Carolina educators statewide to incorporate African American history into classroom teaching. The calendar is printed and distributed to schools and community organizations throughout the state and provides students, parents, educators, and our citizens with a hands on tool for learning about African American history and aims to inspire future generations of African Americans. The calendar is unveiled each year at a special recognition ceremony at the Koger Center in Columbia that is attended by over 1500 individuals.

The 2020 South Carolina African American History Calendar Unveiling will take place on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the Koger Center for the Arts, 1051 Greene Street in Columbia.
