Description
Pursuant to Section 1001 of the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act (P.L. 117-2), the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) provided ARP Act funds to the South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) to improve food and agricultural supply chain resiliency (supply chain resiliency). The funds will support the SCDE’s efforts to coordinate and provide technical assistance to build and increase the capacity of participating institutions to procure and use local foods in National School Lunch Program (NSLP) meals. The funds also support providing agricultural education opportunities for participating children, including administration of a Farm to School subaward process.
The purpose of the Farm to School Subgrant is to increase the capacity of institutions to improve farm to school initiatives at the local level. These subgrants will allow
- School Food Authorities (SFAs) to purchase resources and/or small wares/equipment needed to procure and/or process more produce; and
- Summer Break Café sponsors and SFAs to develop resources for increasing educational opportunities for children.
