The School Nurse Program provides an informational page equipped with a variety of resources for school nurses. Nurses will be able to locate information regarding current trends, polices, and best-practices in the delivery of nursing services across the state. This webpage will serve as a vehicle to support the school nurses employed in school clinics across South Carolina.

Role of the School Nurse

School nurses are vital to the educational process and academic growth of all students. They ensure the safety and well-being of South Carolina's children by eliminating health related barriers to learning. Additionally, school nurses are an integral member of the school's interdisciplinary team and serves as a liaison for children, their families, school personnel, community, and healthcare providers. Nurses help to facilitate life-long achievement in students by promoting well-being, self-management, self-advocacy, and academic success. In this pivotal role, nurses support and promote a healthier and safe school environment. School nursing is a specialized and collaborative practice that encompasses public health and pediatric nursing.
