The SCDE is pleased to announce the purchase of the Consortium for School Networking (CoSN) Trusted Learning Environment (TLE) Seal Program state subscription. The statewide subscription plan will provide tangible privacy support for school districts and measure student data privacy program improvements in South Carolina.

CoSN’s TLE Seal Program is a nationally recognized student data privacy framework designed to support school districts in developing, improving, and maintaining mature student data privacy programs. This enables K-12 EdTech leaders to expand trust in the community with respect to their student data privacy efforts and stay committed to ongoing improvements over time.

To initiate the SC statewide TLE Seal Program process, we request all school districts complete the CoSN Nationwide School District Survey-Student Data Privacy: Understanding the National Landscape by September 30, 2024. This anonymous survey will help establish benchmarks and aggregate data to use for the state program and identify/provide valuable resources via the TLE Seal Program.

School Districts applying for a TLE Seal or mini TLE Seals can request a unique code to waive the TLE application fee. This expense is included with the CoSN’s Trusted Learning Environment (TLE) Seal Program state subscription purchased by SCDE.
