The South Carolina School Facilities Planning and Construction Committee will be meeting on November 9, 2016 at 10:00 a.m.. in the Rutledge Building Conference Center.  The meeting will be held to consider changes to the South Carolina School Facilities Planning and Construction Guide.

In preparation of the November 9 meeting, there will be a workshop meeting on October 28 at 10:00 a.m. in the Rutledge Building Conference Center to discuss changes to be placed on the agenda for the November 9 meeting.  At this time, there are three agenda items for discussion:

  1. Adoption of the 2015 ICC Code editions
  2. Section 404.4.3  Bi-level water coolers must be counted as one fixture for fixture count purposes
  3. Section 804.1  Fire alarm cable must be installed in metallic conduit

If you would like to add additional items to the agenda for discussion on the 28th, please let me know.  Discussion items do not have to be submitted ahead of time but may be brought up at the meeting.  If you are not able to attend but have an item for the agenda, please let me know so that we can include it.

As you are considering proposed changes to the Guide, please keep in mind the Legislature has adopted the 2015 ICC Code editions as the minimum code requirements for the entire state, both public and private construction.  As such, the committee does not have the authority to waive or reduce the minimum requirements detailed in the code.  There is a separate procedure through the Building Codes Council or directly through ICC to make changes to the minimum requirements to the code that can be discussed at the workshop, if you would like additional information on the process.

We look forward to seeing you at the workshop.
