The South Carolina College- and Career-Ready Assessments (SC READY) program is a statewide assessment in English Language Arts (ELA) and mathematics administered to students in grades 3–8. For 2020–21, the South Carolina Palmetto Assessment of State Standards (SCPASS) is a statewide assessment in science administered to students in grades four and six. All students are required to participate in SC READY and SCPASS. These participation requirements do not include those students who qualify to participate in Alternate Assessment for students with significant cognitive disabilities.

The purpose of the SC READY ELA Assessment Boundaries for grades 3-5 is to provide teachers a view of the (assessed) standards through the lens of the Office of Assessment. Our hope is that the document will provide teachers insight into how the grade-level indicators are assessed on the SC READY ELA Assessment. Using this document with the SC READY ELA Sample Release Items should also provide teachers with concrete examples that show how the grade-level indicators are used in assessment items and the varying degrees of rigor within the indicators.
Within this document, each assessed standard is linked to SC READY sample release items for grades 3-5. Additionally, this document outlines the skills and cognitive processes that students must use to be successful on test items targeting the selected grade-level indicators.
