The Office of Student and Community Engagement (OSCE) provides sustained student and community engagement through strategic networking, programs, internal collaboration, and other support that will bring transformation to schools and strengthen community sectors in South Carolina.
Every South Carolina student is precious and full of potential. We hold high expectations for them because we believe in their resilience and capability. But high expectations require high support. And that requires effort from each of us: our schools, our responsibility.

Let Grow Play Clubs and the Let Grow Experience help K-12 schools promote childhood independence, free play, and resilience, inspired by Jonathan Haidt's Fourth Norm from The Anxious Generation. South Carolina is leading the way in supporting kids' healthy development through fun, independence-building activities.
iLead provides values-based leadership content for K-12 students through peer-to-peer learning and roundtable discussions, fostering a positive culture and legacy. These principles are also available to educators and community members, promoting authentic conversations that encourage listening, learning, and transformation.
The “Leader in Me” program assists schools and districts with a systems-approach to develop trust and grow leadership and life skills in both students and educators, while creating a culture of success – personally and academically.
The Medal of Honor Character Development Program is a free curriculum designed by teachers and aligned with many state standards. It focuses on six core values: courage, commitment, integrity, sacrifice, citizenship, and patriotism. The program uses intergenerational stories and videos to bring these values to life, helping students develop strong character, citizenship, patriotism, and resilience.
The South Carolina African American History Calendar honors individuals from South Carolina for their notable contributions. Each fall, the SCDE and its partners reveal the calendar’s honorees and offer an annual grant to help educators integrate the calendar into elementary to high school curricula.

Serve Students. Support Teachers. Empower Parents. Engage Communities.
We connect districts with community partners to create sustainable solutions to some of our school's greatest needs. Our goal is to prepare and equip every student for a successful future.
