The U.S. Department of Education (USED) provides a Migrant Education Program (MEP) formula grant to the South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) to establish and improve education programs for migratory children and youth. The SCDE’s 2023–24 MEP will provide subgrants to local organizational agencies (LOAs) to improve educational opportunities for migratory children and youth to help them succeed in the regular school year, meet the same challenging state academic standards that all children and youth are expected to meet, and earn a high school diploma.

An eligible LOA is a local educational agency (LEA) or a public or private agency that demonstrates the ability and capacity to manage a program that will serve all eligible migratory children and youth for the proposed service area. In some cases, two or more LEAs or other entities may partner to form an LOA. Additionally, LOAs may propose to serve and/or identify and recruit (ID&R) migratory children and youth in multiple LEAs.
$200,000
Award amounts will be determined based on the number of migratory children to be served.
