2019-20 African American History Instructional Materials

Description

The SCDE will award grant funds to nonprofit organizations, school districts, or institutions of higher education for the development of new inquiry-based instructional materials aligned to the 2020 South Carolina Social Studies College- and Career-Ready Standards  via one of the following approaches:
  • Host a multiple day experience for teachers that connects prominent historic sites in South Carolina with an inquiry-based instructional unit, accompanied by a text set; or
  • Develop a minimum of three inquiry-based instructional units with accompanying text sets.

Eligible Applicants

Eligible applicants are nonprofit organizations, school districts, and institutions of higher education that are capable of developing a multi-day experience for teachers or three inquiry-based instructional units aligned to the 2020 South Carolina Social Studies College- and Career-Ready Standards emphasizing African American history and the contributions of African Americans.

Total Funding Available

  $200,000

Funding Details

The SCDE anticipates awarding one grant for the multiple day experience accompanied by a text set and approximately five grants for the development of three inquiry-based instructional units accompanied by text sets.

  December 9, 2019, through June 26, 2020

Technical Assistance Session

The SCDE’s Office of Standards and Learning will offer a technical assistance webinar via Adobe Connect on September 19, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. to assist eligible applicants in understanding this RFP and how to apply for this grant.  No password is required to join the session.  Participants should enter their full names when logging in.  Participants will be able to log in 30 minutes prior to the start time to test their audio settings and download/print handouts.  While participation is not mandatory to submit an application, it is highly recommended
