Description
The SCDE will award grant funds to nonprofit organizations, school districts, or institutions of higher education for the development of new inquiry-based instructional materials aligned to the
2019 South Carolina Social Studies College- and Career-Ready Standards (2019 Standards) via one of the following approaches:
- Develop and host an African American Historic Sites Professional Learning Opportunity (PLO) for teachers that connects prominent historic sites in South Carolina with content knowledge on South Carolina’s African American history. The PLO guides teachers in the development of inquiry-based instructional units with an accompanying text set that connects the visited site’s content with identified course themes using the associated skills embedded in the indicators, and includes options to assess for student learning; or
- Develop and host an Instructional Units PLO for teachers that provides content knowledge on selected South Carolina African American history and guides teachers into the development of a minimum of three inquiry-based instructional units with accompanying text sets (see definition, page 4) that connect the selected history with identified course themes using the associated skills embedded in the indicators, and includes options to assess for student learning.
