Renewal Entity Program Overview
The Renewal Entity Program grants qualifying schools, colleges, universities, and agencies located in South Carolina the option to award renewal credits to their employees for professional development and training activities that support job functions and the school's goals. Participating entities have a trained renewal coordinator on staff that may review activities for their employees and approve the issuance of educator certificate renewal credits. Employees of participating entities may utilize all options of the Renewal Matrix guidelines, foregoing the usual restriction of only being eligible to earn renewal credits through college, university, or South Carolina Department of Education coursework.
Eligibility
In order to be eligible for participation in the Renewal Entity Program, the entity must be located in South Carolina and must be one of the following:
- A regionally accredited institution of higher education in South Carolina or an institution of higher education in South Carolina that has a State Board of Education approved teacher education program
- A charter school in South Carolina that is not serviced by the sponsoring district
- A state-funded agency in South Carolina that employs South Carolina educators
- A private school in South Carolina that is accredited by Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS/Cognia) and services classrooms 4K and above
Administrators of eligible entities may contact certification@ed.sc.gov to request additional information regarding the Renewal Entity Program. There are no costs associated with the program and interested candidates will receive training prior to program enrollment.
