Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program

Fresh fruits and vegetables

The South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) will announce the 2020-21 subgrantees for the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program grant in July 2020.

The FFVP is administered by the Office of Health and Nutrition, SC Department of Education. Participating schools must be operating the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and must abide by the same US Department of Agriculture (USDA) monitoring, bookkeeping, and record retention guidance in operating the FFVP.

The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) provides all children in participating schools with a variety of free fresh fruits and vegetables throughout the school day. It is an effective and creative way of introducing fresh fruits and vegetables as healthy snack options. The FFVP also encourages the education of families and partnerships with members of the community as an overall way of increasing the health and wellness of both students and those in the community in which they live.
