Seals and Credentials
SC Seal of Biliteracy
This year, the South Carolina Seal of Biliteracy (SC SoBl) will be issued as a digital credential via the Parchment application.
In preparation, the district-level liaisons/contacts for World Languages will be reaching out to district PowerSchool Administrators to code this award on the Student Information Page in PowerSchool for all students who meet the requirements.
How to code the SC Seal of Biliteracy for students this year:
1. In PowerSchool, on the Student Information page, select the appropriate dropdown value/s from the "Award Earned" field (please reference the spreadsheet provided by the district World Languages contact/liaison):
Bronze - South Carolina Seal of Biliteracy
Silver - South Carolina Seal of Biliteracy
Gold - South Carolina Seal of Biliteracy
2. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the Submit button to save.
Note the following:
- 11th and 12th grade students may qualify for the award.
- Students who do not qualify for the SC Seal of Biliteracy do not need to be coded in PowerSchool this year.
- The district World Languages contact/liaison should reach out to the district PowerSchool Administrator if a student's award status changes. If students were previously coded to assist with an applicant count prior to testing, the coding for those students will need to be changed if the students' status has changed. To deselect the award for a student, hold down the Ctrl key and click on the award that you wish to deselect. Remember to save the page once changes are made.
District World Languages contacts may reach out to PowerSchool@ed.sc.gov if assistance is needed connecting with the district PowerSchool Administrator.
If PowerSchool Administrators need assistance connecting with their district World Languages contact person, they may reach out to Rocio Zalba: rzalba@ed.sc.gov
Seals of Distinction
Seals of Distinction Contacts will soon be receiving projected lists of students to verify. Please ensure that your district has designated a staff member (or multiple staff members) and added that person to the
Seals of Distinction role in the District Entity Management System (DEIM).
