Columbia, SC – State Superintendent of Education Molly M. Spearman announced that Jennifer Wise, a teacher at Hand Middle School in Richland School District One, is a finalist for the South Carolina Teacher of the Year award.
“Jennifer is a very special middle school teacher and is a great representative of Richland One,” said Spearman. “Her love of Mathematics and teaching began in high school, and I am proud that she is a mentor to her students and peers today,” said Spearman.
Jennifer Wise is a 7th and 8th grade Mathematics teacher at Hand Middle School in Richland School District One. Jennifer always wanted to help and work with children. She recognized her desire to become a Math educator during her junior year in high school while tutoring her peers after-school. She helps her students see the role Math plays in their life by engaging in real world problems. Jennifer has served in a number of leadership roles including serving on the Mathematics Standard Review Board, School Wellness Council, and Professional Learning Community Facilitator.
The state’s winner receives $25,000 and gets to drive a brand new BMW for one year while advocating for teachers across South Carolina.
