SERVE
The SERVE Center at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro is a university-based education organization that promotes and supports the continuous improvement of educational opportunities for all learners in the Southeast. SERVE's ultimate goal is to raise the level of student achievement in the region.
The SERVE Center is governed by a board of directors that includes the governors, chief state school officers, educators, legislators, and private sector leaders from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
SERVE places a senior policy research analyst in state departments of education. They work in a variety of ways to help foster an informed policy environment that supports local and state policymakers in each of the SERVE states.
Cindy McIntee, the Senior Policy Analyst in South Carolina, provides research-based information to policy makers and serves as the liaison for SERVE work in the state.
SERVE's operational core is the Regional Educational Laboratory. Funded by the U.S. Department of Education's Institute of Education Sciences, the REL is one of ten laboratories providing research-based information and services to all 50 states and territories. These laboratories form a nationwide education knowledge network, building a bank of information and resources shared and disseminated nationally and regionally to improve student achievement.
