MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Office of Quality Assurance is to facilitate accreditation and support systems for districts and schools and assist them in preparing students to compete in a global economy by supporting the alignment of regulations and legislation with 21st century skills, being responsive to requests from the public, and assuring quality learning environments.
ACCREDITATION PROGRAM
ACCREDITATION PROGRAM: The State Board of Education approves the accreditation rating annually for all schools and school districts. The recommended accreditation ratings are based upon compliance with applicable state statutes, State Board of Education regulations, desk audits, and selected on-site visits. Home Schooling: The South Carolina Department of Education must conduct an annual review of home school association standards to ensure compliance with home schooling programs and alternative home schooling requirements.

SUMMER SCHOOL: The South Carolina Department of Education monitors summer schools for compliance to applicable statutes and State Board of Education regulations through desk audits and limited on-site reviews. The accreditation status of summer schools is reported at the same time of the accreditation Annual Report.

INTERVENTION AND ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
INTERVENTION AND ASSISTANCE PROGRAM: The purpose of the Intervention and Assistance Program is to improve student academic performance in designated low performing South Carolina districts and schools by providing targeted technical assistance.

TEACHER SPECIALISTS ON-SITE PROGRAM: This program identifies, selects and trains teachers with a history of exemplary student academic achievement to serve as teacher specialists on site in impaired schools designated as below average or unsatisfactory.

OTHER PROGRAMS
HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA: The Office of Quality Assurance coordinates the provision of high school diplomas, State certificates, and Academic Honors Awards to high schools and adult education programs. Additionally, the office provides replacement diplomas and letters of verification of graduation to eligible graduates, post-secondary educational institutions, Armed Forces, and businesses.
